As the story goes, John and Freda of the Blake Babies— before the Blake Babies was a thing, or had a name, or a singer, and was just an idea in the minds of young John and Freda— went to a reading followed by a Q &A with Allen Ginsberg at Harvard in Cambridge, MA, across the river from Boston where John and Freda were living while John attended the Berklee College of Music. When it was their turn at the mic, John and (/or) Freda asked Ginsberg what they should name their rock band, and Ginsberg answered “Blake Babies”.
And that is how the band got the name, before I had met John and Freda.
Someone—a stranger, a fan— once asked me what she should name her band and I told her “Dirty Virgins”. I don’t know if I have any more band-name ideas as brilliant as that but I am going to do a Question-and-Answer session here. All paying subscribers can ask me anything about anything—just put the questions in the “comments” and I will answer what I can during the next week. Anyone—paid, unpaid—will be able to read all the answers to all the questions I will have chosen.
Cheers!
Hi Juliana, Is there any chance you could work with Matthew again for another Minor Alps album? Your voices blend so beautifully, it’s quite magical.
Hi JH! Been a fan since '94. Love your music. Are we any closer in seeing an official release of God's Foot? I'd love for that to happen especially a vinyl release.
